Joya was honored to be part of a unique fundraiser put together by a Joya alum, Joey, and his family!
Joey and his twin sister, Lily, attended Joya due to a premature birth leading to developmental delays. After receiving therapies and special education as part of our early intervention program, they reached their age-appropriate milestones and then became peer models in their group. They loved their time at Joya and Joey wanted to give back to a place that is special to him!
At the young age of six, Joey is showing us all how to be generous! Joey was blessed with naturally curly blonde hair that has been growing since birth. Joey’s mom tells us that while he is all rough and tumble boy, Joey was often mistaken for a girl with his long locks. “Most women say his hair is gorgeous and are envious,” said Joey’s mom. But Joey has a thoughtful and giving nature and decided to cut his hair, to make a difference! With the help of his parents, he conducted his own fundraiser to support Joya’s future. He ended up raising $3,515 for Joya’s capital campaign! In addition to raising funds for Joya, he is donating his hair to Wigs for Kids.
Way to go, Joey! You are a true inspiration!
