Joya was recently the beneficiary of the hard work of two Spokane Girl Scouts. Chloe and Oona from Girl Scout Troop 2159 stopped by Joya with boxes of specially made art kits.
The girls worked on their “Art Kits for Kids” over the past year for their Silver Award Project. The Silver Award is one of the highest awards in Girl Scouting. Cadettes in 6-8th grade team up to find an issue they care about and then produce a project and plan to make a difference in their community. Chloe and Oona had a goal to make art kits for several organizations in Spokane that serve children. The kits include crayons, markers, colored pencils and a hand-designed coloring book.
The girls chose their project after learning how art is such a great way for children to express themselves while offering therapeutic benefits as well. They specifically aimed to support the community spaces that serve children because art can help kids develop fine motor skills, learn colors or just be a relaxing activity.
Kiddos at Joya were excited to try out the new kits. Everyone was especially impressed with the original artwork in the hand drawn coloring book. They even have a way for kids to print more once they run out. To make their project sustainable and free, Chloe and Oona have a link to their website where a pdf of the designs can be printed out over and over.
Thank you, Chloe and Oona, for giving back to the littlest members of our community and congratulations on your Silver Award!
