Sarah Bunney

Sarah Bunney

Sarah Bunney is the Assistant Director at Joya Child & Family Development. Spokane is her home, and she is a graduate of Eastern Washington University. Sarah is thrilled to be a part of the Joya team and passionate about Early Intervention because it gives children and families the tools and support, they need to navigate challenging times in their lives and experience success, and Joya does a great job at that!

Colleen Fuchs

Colleen (Thompson) Fuchs is the Executive Director of Joya Child & Family Development, a non-profit providing early intervention services to infants and toddlers in Spokane County. Colleen has a longtime connection to Joya, formerly the Spokane Guilds’ School, and a strong affinity for the organization’s mission and history. She’s an alumni parent and former board member who’s seen first-hand the value of early intervention. In 2016 she was hired to serve as Joya’s program coordinator, overseeing a team of therapists and teachers and coordinating with Joya’s medical and social workers to deliver the best program possible for children and families. In 2019, Colleen was promoted to Executive Director and has led the 62 year old organization through the construction of a new facility and move to the University District in 2022. Colleen has experience as a teacher and administrator in early childhood and elementary education; pediatric hospital and residential care of medically complex children; owning and operating a business; and in higher education and early learning research. She is a native of Spokane and holds a bachelor’s degree in Education with endorsements in Elementary Education, Special Education and Early Childhood Special Education from Gonzaga University.

Ginette Kerkering

Ginette grew up in Walla Walla, Washington, but headed back to her family roots in Bozeman, Montana for her undergraduate degree at Montana State University. She found out about physical therapy from a friend at MSU and knew right away that this was a perfect career for her. She attended Eastern Washington University for her physical therapy degree and graduated in 1994. Ginette was lucky to get a job in pediatrics right after graduation and never looked back. She has worked in a variety of pediatric settings, including out-patient pediatrics, neonatal and pediatric intensive care units and pediatric oncology. Ginette came to Joya in 2005 and has been thrilled to be there ever since.

Jodi Varecha

Jodi Varecha

An alumni mom, Jodi developed a passion for the early intervention services that Joya provided for her daughter. Her desire to share the significance of the program with others led to Jodi volunteering in the classroom, speaking at local elementary schools for the annual penny drive, and helping out at various fundraising events. Jodi began working as Teamroom Assistant in 2015, eventually transitioning to her current role as Medical Records Specialist & Scheduler, where she supports staff with the day-to-day operations of the medical and therapy programs. It brings Jodi joy to work with therapists and staff who offer hope and encouragement to the families served. She looks forward to seeing the future of Joya growing and making a difference for even more families. Jodi is a wife and mother to three wonderful children. She enjoys spending time with her family, shopping and planting trees.

Paige Briggs

Paige has been fortunate to work in pediatric nutrition since the start of her career. She finds working in pediatrics to be rewarding, fun, and challenging all at the same time. Paige enjoys helping children grow and thrive no matter their physical or developmental hurdles. When not at work, Paige spends time on her family property and baking.

Matt Thompson, M.D.

Longtime Pediatrician Matt Thompson was raised in Spokane and went to the University of Washington for medical school. His pediatrics training was at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. He is board certified by the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Jennifer Morgan

Jennifer Morgan

Jennifer works to help families meet the many needs that can come with having a child with developmental delays or disabilities. She joined the Joya Child & Family Development team in May 2015. She earned her master’s in social work from Eastern Washington University and has an early childhood associate degree from Spokane Falls Community College. Jennifer has great experience, having worked with children and families in the Spokane area for more than 30 years.

I’ve worked in the non-profit world for about 4 years in various roles ranging from substance abuse/mental health, foster youth, and volunteer/program management. Since graduating in 2020, I have dedicated my career to working closely with families as they navigate and achieve their child’s developmental goals in different settings such as Early Head Start and other early intervention agencies. I am very passionate about being a resource and source of encouragement for parents as they work towards positive outcomes for their children.
